 is the shortest surah of the Holy Quran comprising of only 3 verses. Surah Kawthar is among the Mekkan Surahs and it’s the 108th surah in the Quranic order present in the last chapter of the Quran. The word Al-Kauthar originates from the word kathrah (bounty) and it (Al-Kauthar) phonetically implies a plenitude of goodness, spiritual benefits, and endowments.  Introduction This chapter was revealed during the Meccan period. The chapter teaches the slaves to resort to the protection of Al-Rahman (the Most Gracious) and to seek refuge in His greatness and power from the evils of His creation. Allah explicitly mentions the evils of the night after dark because that is usually when people feel alienation [out of fear] and when evils and obscenity spread. There is also mention of seeking refuge in Allah from every envier and magician.  Introduction and Verse 1 The introduction of this Surah is quite long but it is significant and very important to set the stage for what is about to follow. This is part of a series of surahs – Surah Anfal and Surah Taubah. This surah is related to the previous surah (Surah A’raf) in that they both talk about the ‘Sunnah of Allah’ (Sunnatillah). It talks about how Allah deals with similar Nations in the same way. It is mentioned in the Qur’an: [This is] the established way of Allah with those who passed on before; and you will not find in the way of Allah any change.
