Taunting others

The meaning of emotional abuse could not be as clear-cut as that of physical abuse, and the abuse itself is more subtle. Name-calling, insulting, using the fear of divorce as a tool to control the other person, and making threats with a real weapon are all examples of emotional abuse. Men and women who experience frequent verbal abuse from their spouses but have not experienced physical abuse experience the mental health suffering in same way. Verbal abuse is more subtle than physical abuse and can go undetected. However, because there is no "apparent" harm, verbal abuse is still more harmful. Ultimately, it destroys the soul, leaves unseen wounds, a broken spirit, and low self-esteem. Islam understands the harm of verbal abuse, which may be why it places such a strong focus on controlling one's tongue and protecting others from its underlying harm. Considering the importance of controlling one’s words and actions, Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) has stated: “A true believer ...

Zionists

Zionism Zionism, or Jewish nationalism, is a modern political movement. Its core beliefs are that all Jews constitute one nation (not simply a religious or ethnic community) and that the only solution to anti-Semitism is the concentration of as many Jews as possible in Palestine/Israel and the establishment of a Jewish state there. The World Zionist Organization, established by Theodor Herzl in 1897, declared that the aim of Zionism was to establish “a national home for the Jewish people secured by public law.” Zionism drew on Jewish religious attachment to Jerusalem and the Land of Israel (Eretz Israel). But the politics of Zionism was influenced by nationalist ideology, and by colonial ideas about Europeans’ rights to claim and settle other parts of the world. Zionism gained adherents among Jews and support from the West as a consequence of the murderous anti-Jewish riots (known as pogroms) in the Russian Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Nazi genocide (mass ...

About Hindutva

Since the consolidation of the Sangh Parivar in the 1990s and its subsequent ascendancy to power in 2014, there has been a signicant rise in the studies and commentaries on Hindu nationalism and the Hindutva discourse in India. These studies have emphasized the nature of Hindutva ideology, its history, its organizational structure, its transnational nature, its fascist and Nazi underpinnings, its complicity in violence towards minorities, its subversion of democracy and its digital advancement. Arming that Muslimness is the other of the Hindutva project, few studies have also focused on the violence (misnamed as communal riots) and the marginalization of Muslims in India (Brass 2005, Jarelot 2012). However, what remains uninterrogated in these studies is whose language is compromised or erased. Such theorizations often locate the Muslim as a victim rather than an autonomous subject, whereby the potential of Islam is relegated, and Muslim political subjectivity is disciplined. S...

about greater Israel

n 21st September 2024, something extraordinary happened. Even stranger still is that no-one was surprised by it. Israeli armoured vehicles crossed the border into Syria, travelled roughly 200 metres and started to dig up farmland between the Syrian Golan and the occupied Syrian Golan. Not only that, they also began to create barriers in the form of trenches 10 metres wide and 1,700 metres long. What’s going on?! Making Israel great(er) Israel has greater ambitions than just the Golan Heights; it has the intention of creating a path that it calls the David Corridor and stretches from the Syrian Golan to the Iraqi border. It’s a frightening project. Take one look at a map, and you’ll realise how this scheme can potentially create a persistent hell for those in the region. Right now, we’re talking about the level of Israeli influence over our countries; imagine the control that Israel will have if it increases its hold over those economies, not to mention oil and other natural resour...

Finding faults in others

The teachings of Islām not only guide us to the ways of attaining success in the next life, they also encompass the principles that show us how to achieve success in this life and improve our society. One clear principle from amongst them is the honouring of Muslims, due to which, certain things such as swearing, slandering, backbiting and fault-finding, etc. are prohibited in the Sharī’ah (Islamic Law). The disease of fault-finding is spreading like a virus within the society. It is becoming the norm for people to forget themselves and instead search for faults in others. Whereas, Allah Almighty has prohibited us from finding faults in others: وَّ لَا تَجَسَّسُوْا And do not search for (hidden) faults [Kanz-ul-Iman (translation of Quran)] (Part 26, Surah Al-Hujurat, Verse 12) Commenting on the above verse, Sadr Al-Afādil Sayyid Muftī Muhammad Na’īm al-Dīn Murādābādī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states: ‘Do not find faults in other Muslims and do not seek to know of their hidden mat...

about insulting others

Image
All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions. It is an obligation upon a true Muslim to avoid speaking bad about others honor, be they men or women, insult or call them names. This is since The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "A true believer is not involved in taunting, or frequently cursing (others) or in indecency or abusing." [At-Tirmidhi]. In fact, Sharia came to preserve five necessities: religion, intellect, honor, wealth, and life, and banned any aggression against them. There are many an evidence on this. For example, The Prophet (PBUH) said: "A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands the Muslims are safe." [Moslim]. In his commentary on this report, An-Nawawi said: "It means not harming others with word or action. The hand is mentioned in particular because most actions are done using it." [Shareh An-Nawawi Ala Moslim, vol.2/pp.10]. I...

feeling happy at the misfortune of other people

Expressing Pleasure at Misfortune of Muslims SUMMARY: Expressing pleasure at the misfortune of a Muslim brother is not allowed as it may lead to Allah bestowing mercy upon him and making you suffer from a misfortune. Speaking ill of others

 Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, If there is a valid reason to disclose the faults of others, it will be permissible to disclose the same. Imam Nawawi (may Allah be pleased with him), has summarized the occasions when it is permissible to reveal the shortcomings of a person in the following text:
