Surah Kausar - Tafsir

is the shortest surah of the Holy Quran comprising of only 3 verses. Surah Kawthar is among the Mekkan Surahs and it’s the 108th surah in the Quranic order present in the last chapter of the Quran. The word Al-Kauthar originates from the word kathrah (bounty) and it (Al-Kauthar) phonetically implies a plenitude of goodness, spiritual benefits, and endowments. The opponents of Rasoolullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam imagined that Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) had been totally destroyed; he had been expatriated, his trade was demolished, and his male children who could carry on his name were dead. He was defenceless and frail and he was confronting disappointment and disillusionment. His adversaries would celebrate thinking there would be nobody to remember him after he will be gone. At that point, Allah subhanahu was ta'ala stated, "Verily, We have rewarded you Al-Kauthar," it shows that your absurd rivals imagine that you are destroyed and denied of the beneficial thin...

Turbulence in psychology

Image
On the message board, someone wrote: "A group of friends are planning to spend Christmas/New Years in Miami . . . . However what's putting me off is this fear of flying over the Atlantic during the Winter! . . . . What I desperately need to know is, is flying over the Atlantic bumpy in Winter . . .  The thought of it at the moment is really scaring and freaking me out at the moment!!!"

My response: Having crossed the Atlantic year-round for thirty years, I never was impressed with seasonal differences in turbulence. But I don't know whether this is because there are none, or because—knowing full-well that turbulence is (to a pilot) a non-event—it didn't seem worth paying attention to (which it isn't). I'm impressed, however, with how amazingly important it is to an anxious flier that there may be more or less, or whatever, when it comes to turbulence. The amount of focus a person places on turbulence is worth looking into. Why does it matter so much? I...

Surah Al Falaq - Tafsir

Introduction This chapter was revealed during the Meccan period. The chapter teaches the slaves to resort to the protection of Al-Rahman (the Most Gracious) and to seek refuge in His greatness and power from the evils of His creation. Allah explicitly mentions the evils of the night after dark because that is usually when people feel alienation [out of fear] and when evils and obscenity spread. There is also mention of seeking refuge in Allah from every envier and magician. This chapter along with Surah al-Naas are called al-Mu’awwidhatan (المعوذتان), which some translate as ‘the verses of refuge’ and the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to utilize them both to protect himself through them. Explanation of the Verses 113:1 Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak Say, O’ Messenger [to the people], I seek protection in the Lord of falaq, which is in reference to the [beginning of the] day [at dawn]. 113:2 From the evil of that which He created From the evils and harms of all that is c...

Surah An Nas

Surah An-Nas [114] (The Mankind) In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 1. "Say: 'I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind" 2. "The King of mankind" 3. "The God of mankind" (1-3) This Surah describes three Attributes of Allah the All-Mighty. He gives sustenance to mankind, He is Sovereign and He is Worthy of worship. All things are created by Him, possessed by Him, and subservient to Him. He commands anyone who wants refuge to seek in it the Lord who has these Attributes. 4. "From the evil of the whisperer" (4) Satan entices people to commit sins as he makes evil attractive to men. Only Allah can grant protection from the evil of Satan. According to a Hadith, the Prophet said, "With everyone of you there is a devil." The Companions asked, "Is there a devil even with you?" The Prophet said, "Yes, but Allah has granted me protection against him." Al-Bukhari and Muslim report that once when the P...

Surah Al Anfal

Introduction and Verse 1 The introduction of this Surah is quite long but it is significant and very important to set the stage for what is about to follow. This is part of a series of surahs – Surah Anfal and Surah Taubah. This surah is related to the previous surah (Surah A’raf) in that they both talk about the ‘Sunnah of Allah’ (Sunnatillah). It talks about how Allah deals with similar Nations in the same way. It is mentioned in the Qur’an: [This is] the established way of Allah with those who passed on before; and you will not find in the way of Allah any change. [33:62] In the second half of Surah A’raf, Allah talks about the worldly destruction of nations and people that came before, specially the people of Musa and the destruction and drowning of Fir’awn and in Surah Anfal Allah will talk about the destruction of the people of Makkah (NOT the entire Arabian Peninsula). The Makkans here will be destroyed and defeated by the very swords of the believers – the army behind Rasu...

Surah Al Kahf

Surah Al-Kahf is the found in 18th chapter of the Quran. It includes four historical stories, which we can derive amazing lessons from. There are many benefits to being familar with Surah. The Prophet ﷺ said: “One who memorized the first ten verses of Surah al Kahf will be secure against the Dajjal (Anti-Christ).” (Muslim) These are the main lessons from the four stories of Surah Al-Kahf. The Story of the people of the cave – A Trial of Faith This story is about a number of young men who were driven out of their homes because they believed in Allah. They ended up in a cave where Allah made them sleep for many years (309 lunar years which is 300 solar years). When they woke up they felt they had slept for a day or half a day. One of them went to the town to get some food disguising himself thinking that the people would recognise and harm him. Only to find himself amongst a different people. The people of the town were amazed at his appearance of this man and the old coins he was u...

Surah Maarij - Translation and Comments

Which was revealed in Makkah   ﴿بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ ﴾   In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. A Request to hasten the Day of Judgement   ﴿سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ ﴾   (A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall) This Ayah contains an assumed meaning that is alluded to by the letter “Ba”. It is as though it is saying, a questioner requested to hasten on the torment that is about to fall. It is similar to Allah’s statement, ﴿وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِالْعَذَابِ وَلَن يُخْلِفَ اللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ﴾   (And they ask you to hasten on the torment! And Allah fails not His promise.) (22:47) meaning, that its torment will occur and there is no avoiding it. Al-`Awfi reported from Ibn `Abbas concerning the Ayah, ﴿سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ ﴾   (A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall) “That is the questioning of the disbelievers about the torment of Allah and it will occur to them.” Ibn A...

Hazrat Yousuf's story

The story of Sura Yūsuf is about the Prophet Yūsuf, translated in English as Joseph. Yūsuf is one of the sons of Ya'qub (known as Jacob in the English translation) who has the talent of interpreting dreams. One day Yūsuf has a dream and he narrates his dream to his father who immediately knows that Yūsuf will be a prophet. His father tells him not to tell his brothers to avoid any harm. However, because of Ya'qub's loving treatment towards Yūsuf, Yūsuf's brothers felt jealous. They wanted to get rid of Yūsuf, so their father could love them instead of Yūsuf. Their initial plan was to kill Yūsuf, but later they decided to throw him in a well. They lied to their father and told him that a wolf had killed him. Later, a caravan rescued Yūsuf from the well, who then sold him to a 'Al-Aziz in Egypt. The 'Al-Aziz took Yūsuf in and was hoping to either put him to work or adopt him as a son. Later, the man's wife tries to seduce Yūsuf, but he resists. The woman seei...

You make Sajdatul Sahu for three reasons: If you do not do a Sunnah Mu'akadah. If you added something to the salat that is not originaly of the salat, like an extra Rakat. If you added and took away something fr...

Surah Ar- Rahman - Translation and comments

TAFSIR OF SURAH AR RAHMAN The Qur’an was revealed as a book of proof that Islam is the one true religion and to be a book of guidance. We should read the Qur’an but also make it a study. We’ve added this section to include tafseer of Surah Rahman for those looking to benefit from reading the commentary. Ibn Kathir SURAH RAHMAN TAFSIR BY IBN KATHIR Which was revealed in Makkah Imam Ahmad recorded that Zirr said that a man said ﴿to Ibn Mas`ud﴾: “How is this recited: “Ma’in Ghayri Yasin or Asin” He asked him, “Are you that proficient in reciting the whole Qur’an” He replied, “I recite the Mufassal section in one Rak`ah.” So he said, “Woe to you! Do you recite the Qur’an in haste, as if it is poetry I know that the Prophet used to recite two Surahs from the beginning of the Mufassal section (in one Rak`ah).” And Ibn Mas`ud considered Surat Ar-Rahman to be the beginning of the Mufassal section. Abu `Isa At-Tirmidhi recorded that Jabir said, “The Messenger of Allah went to his Companions and...
